Theresa S. Prioleau, a New York native reared in Cross, South Carolina, is the Founder and CEO of CHECK (Communities Helping to Encourage Change in Kids) and has dedicated 30 years to education at Cross High and Cross Elementary Schools. She holds both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Elementary Education and has spent her career serving children and families throughout the rural communities supported by both schools. Since founding CHECK in 1997, she has led impactful initiatives including the 28th Annual Kids’ Day, a free event uniting eight rural communities through fun, resources, and family engagement; the CHECKMATES Youth Auxiliary, which empowers youth through leadership and service; and the Love & Acceptance of Autism & Special Needs CommUnity Day, which celebrates individuals with special needs. She also launched the Mental Health Symposium to promote awareness and access to mental wellness resources in rural areas. In Fall 2025, she will introduce CHECK Cares for Our Elderly, an intergenerational initiative supporting local seniors. Theresa remains a passionate advocate for education, inclusion, and positive community change.
